We currently have an exciting opportunity within our highly specialist Pharmacy Technical Services facility for the right candidate to have a direct input to providing cancer treatments for the patients of Cornwall. This post holder will train to undertake manufacturing and compounding of sterile chemotherapy and nutrition products.
You will assist and supervise the preparation of injectable medicines of both a hazardous and non-hazardous nature and other medicine assembly activities.
Following the successful completion of in house training you will support and supervise the training and daily activities of a small team of pharmacy assistants, senior pharmacy assistants and student technicians in conjunction with the senior pharmacy technicians.
Applicants must hold an NVQ 2 in Pharmacy (or equivalent) and have the ability and commitment to complete the Science Manufacturing Technician apprenticeship which will be offered as part of the post. Furthermore, the applicant will be expected to complete the Pharmacy Workforce Development South Pre and in Process Checking qualification.
Pharmacy Technical Services is responsible for providing all intravenous chemotherapy and radiotherapy for the cancer patients of Cornwall. The unit is also involved in producing novel clinical trials products.

Previous experience of working in a technical services facility and demonstration of competence in multiple areas of a pharmacy technical services unit is essential. These areas may include:
Chemotherapy, aseptic and CIVAS production (Section 10 Activity)
Radio pharmacy support and dispensing activities (licensed activity)
Non-sterile manufacturing (licensed activity)
Support duties pertaining to Section 10 activities
Bank Holiday working on rotation is required as is occasional weekend working. The successful applicant will also be required to be part of the technician on call pool for weekends i.e. Saturday and Sunday 08:00 to 18:00.

This is a full time post working 37.5 hours per week.

To assist with stock control including the investigation of any discrepancies.
As determined by the Lead Technicians supervise occasional visitors to the department, ensuring security, safety, and confidentiality is always maintained during the visit.
To co-ordinate and prioritise workflow relating to cancer chemotherapy, parenteral nutrition, CIVAS, other non-cytotoxic products, non-sterile manufacturing, and radiolabelled kits under direction of senior technicians. This will include worksheet generation, calculations, raw material assembly and labelling.
To prepare cancer chemotherapy for intrathecal use according to Department of Health guidelines, Local Trust policy and departmental procedures.
To complete the initial check of cytotoxic, non-cytotoxic, CIVAS and parenteral nutrition batches prior to compounding. This will be achieved by completing and achieving the Pharmacy Workforce Development South Pre and In-Process Checking accreditation.
To supervise senior assistant technical officers, assistant technical officers, and students within the pharmacy technical services unit.
To Train and carry out competency assessments for senior assistant technical officers, assistant technical officers, rotational technicians under the guidance and direction of senior technicians.
To carefully follow all standard operating procedures and work instructions to ensure that all products are made safely and efficiently in accordance with Good Manufacturing Guidelines.
To assist with the preparation of draft documents pertaining to new products and procedures under guidance and supervision of senior technicians.
To participate in production of clinical trials products completing all necessary documentation as required by the study protocols.
